EXO Electric Kiss Dance Practice
While Japanese releases from k-pop artists can be hit or miss, SM Entertainment stands out for consistently delivering a strong j-pop catalog, especially with acts like TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, and SHINee. Despite EXO being SM’s highest-selling group, their Japanese spotlight seemed somewhat limited. However, any reservations are dispelled with “Electric Kiss.” Not only is it EXO’s most robust Japanese single to date, but it’s also their most compelling promotional track in years.
This is noteworthy considering EXO’s reputation for consistently providing high-quality material in the k-pop scene. Even when experimenting with different sounds, as they did last year, the outcomes remain solid. “Electric Kiss” harks back to the dramatic bombast of their debut, making it one of the most profoundly impactful singles in recent memory. The song features thundering stomps of dynamic percussion, with verses delivering unexpected, ever-shifting arrangements seamlessly incorporating hip-hop—a move that feels natural within the track’s bold energy. Each moment builds continuously, creating a streamlined, almost tense structure.
While hype tracks have become somewhat cliché in k-pop, “Electric Kiss” stands out by enhancing its familiar intensity with a hook that goes beyond a simple repeated riff or idea. It feels like a fusion of both older and newer k-pop generations—an invigorating distillation of all EXO’s best elements. This sound is what I’ve been yearning for in the Korean scene. Unexpectedly, it makes a surprising return in Japan.

EXO launches into 2018 by making a return to the Japanese music scene with “Electric Kiss” and their first full-length album, “Countdown.” This album comprises all of EXO’s previously released Japanese singles, such as “Coming Over,” “Love Me Right romantic universe,” and “Drop That,” performed at various concerts and events. Similar to their activities in 2017, Lay did not participate in this comeback due to scheduling conflicts.
The instrumental in this track immediately caught my attention. Upon my initial listen, it exuded a compelling blend of heaviness and power, creating a dramatic and spectacular atmosphere. The instrumental sets the stage for a rough and edgy vibe, expertly complemented by the vocals. I particularly appreciate the roughness in D.O’s vocals, which harmonizes well with the instrumental.
Chanyeol’s and Sehun’s rap segments were on point, surprising me with their raspy voices. While some editing was evident, it’s fitting for an electronic song. The chorus, highlighted by the insertion of the line “It’s going to be electric,” stands out. The bridge also adds to the overall appeal. Although this is a Japanese release, I believe if they were to return with a similar style in South Korea, their performance could surpass their previous achievements.
The fast-paced and flashy style they adopted aligns perfectly with the song. The setting complements the edginess felt in the music, and the video exudes a cool factor that complements the song’s vibe. While my comments on the video are brief, these were the main points I wanted to convey.
Regarding the performance, I anticipated a high level of intensity. While they delivered on that aspect, I felt that the choreography as a whole didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I was hoping for an extra wow factor. The formations, especially during the chorus, were impressive, and the sharp execution was notable. However, it didn’t feel entirely fulfilling to me.
Electric Kiss Review
Electric Kiss by EXO: A Lit Review by OkayBaekie”
Hey everyone,
OkayBaekie here, fashionably late, but I’m here to share my take on EXO’s latest Japanese track, “Electric Kiss.” Remember, this is just my perspective, so let’s keep things chill, and if you’re not up for differing opinions, maybe skip the criticism – it’s all love for EXO. Now, onto the breakdown.
The song? Amazeballs. It might not top my all-time favorite EXO list, given my penchant for Korean versions, but hey, it’s EXO, and that alone is reason enough to love it. Kyungsoo’s vocals, though—something about them just stands out. No favoritism, but dang, Kyungsoo, your voice! Chen’s vocals were on point too, and that rap section left me shook.
The MV, the visuals, the dances—all great. However, at times, there was a lot happening, leaving me a bit bewildered. Maybe it’s just me being slow sometimes, no lies there. I loved the MV overall, but a slower camera pace wouldn’t hurt to capture the boys’ beauty better.
EXO does it again with another awesome track this year. From singing and dancing to their flawless visuals, everything they do is pure amazingness. Suho in that glass cage with water? Clear bias wrecker. Honestly, everyone was a bias wrecker, especially Xiumin, and Chanyeol was just too cute. This song was straight fire!
Anyway, that’s my take on EXO’s newest song. Hope you enjoyed it. OkayBaekie signing out. Bye~
